Career Expo coming
Knox County is offering an event where students can learn about local companies, gain professional interview experience and potentially even set up a job interview.
The Knox County Career Expo will take place Wednesday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Knox County Career Center. There will be a wide range of businesses represented at the expo with everything from the American Red Cross to Buffalo Wild Wings.
MVNU Coordinator of Career Development Gary Swisher encourages students to take advantage of the expo and other job fairs. He said these events allow students the opportunity to sell themselves to potential employers without having to be invited for an interview.
“Not only will you have a chance to sharpen your communication and presentation skills, you will be able to see how other candidates present themselves,” Swisher said. “You will see what you are up against and further develop your own professional skills.”
Swisher also provided several tips for students seeking employment and mentioned that you should bring several copies of your resume and do some homework on the company you want to work for prior to attending the fair.
“A good strategy when attending a job fair is to discreetly listen to the kinds of questions employers ask and practice a few times with low-risk employers before going to talk with one you would really like to work for,” Swisher said.
