Women's soccer "ready to fight"
The MVNU women’s soccer team (6-6) dropped a pair of games last week, falling 1-0 to Taylor University on Tuesday, and losing 3-2 to Marian University on Saturday.
On Saturday, Marian University took a 3-0 lead going into halftime with two goals from Maria Farmer and one by Kellie Cavanaugh. The Cougars stormed back with two goals of their own in the second half of play from senior Allison Paley and sophomore Maddie Gaines.
“It’s tough, because we didn’t play a bad game at all,” coach Daniel Seiffert said. “I’m really proud of how well we fought.”
The Lady Cougars continue their Crossroads League play as they host the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Seiffert said the Lady Cougars will be focused and ready to play.
“If we play our game, we know we can take on anyone in this league,” Seiffert said. “We’re just going to keep getting better and better each day and hope to peak at tournament time.”
MVNU senior captain Shannon Gwynn also looks forward to the competitive Crossroads League schedule. “It’s really exciting. Conference play gets very exciting, but we’re ready to fight. That’s what we’re looking for the rest of conference play,” Gwynn said.
