Eat donuts, see dunks at "Meet the Team" night
To celebrate the upcoming basketball season, SGA is putting on a “Meet the Team” event in Ariel Arena.
On Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. the student body and community are encouraged to attend Dunks and Donuts, an event to introduce the 2016-2017 MVNU men’s and women’s collegiate basketball teams.
Everyone who attends should wear MVNU’s school colors, blue or green, to support the Cougars.
SGA will host a knockout game and a three-point contest for anyone who wants to participate. The men’s basketball team will also have a dunk contest.
The night will include multiple prize giveaways and free donuts for everyone.
MVNU coaches and athletes said the event is a great way to gear up for the upcoming season.
“I think this will be a great opportunity for our student body to get together as a community and grow our relationships with each other while encouraging and building some excitement for some of their fellow classmates,” men’s basketball coach Jared Ronai said. “As far as our team, we are very thankful and humbled by any type of support the student body and community will give this season.”
Women’s Head Coach Amanda Short echoed Ronai’s desire to strengthen relationships throughout the MVNU community and hopes the event will also bring excitement for basketball season.
“Hopefully that excitement will carry over to the students coming to the games and supporting the men’s and women’s teams through the season,” she said.
SGA Events Chairperson and Cougar Crazies committee leader Jessica Wells said she also hopes students will continue to support their peers throughout the season.
“I'm hoping this sets a tone that will help to bring a lot of students to all the games this year,” she said.
The men will begin their season in Indianapolis with the Marian University Classic. Their first home game is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Carlow University.
The Lady Cougars will kick off their season with a scrimmage at Shawnee State University on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. Their first home competition is a scrimmage against Kenyon College on Oct. 29.
