Track and field graduates seniors
MVNU’s track and field seniors have a special distinction as the program’s first graduates.
“When we started, we were on the first-year team,” said senior Ryan Thurman.
The growth in the past four years has been phenomenal, said Thurman, who competed in the javelin throw this year.
“I will miss seeing the team grow and be successful, along with the lifelong friendships,” he said.
Senior Jake Sherer, who competed in the 200 meters, 800 meters and 4x400 meter relay this year, also cherished the team chemistry.
“I have enjoyed how well everyone gels together,” Sherer said. “It truly is a family.”
Distance runner Emily Williams joined the team as a senior, but has developed “deep connections” with her teammates.
“Life won’t be the same when we all part ways,” Williams said.
Williams competed in the 800- and 1500-meter runs during her two months on the track team.
“I’ll miss the competition and the feeling we all get in our stomachs at the start line,” she said.
Other track and field seniors are Bethany Bogantz, Tara Carpenter, Nick Rummel and Simon Taylor.
