This 2008 team had the greatest run in program history going deep into the national tournament. The 2008 Cougars had high hopes going into the season with several players returning. The team would finish with a record of 17-5-2. They went 7-1-2 in the American Mideast Conference (AMC) and made it all the way to the conference championship game where they would lose to Notre Dame (Ohio) 2-1.
Their performance throughout the season earned them an at large bid to the national tournament. The Cougars hosted the first tournament game and won over Lee University (Tenn.) 2-0. They would advance to the next round and face Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) and pick up another victory winning 1-0. They would then advance to the quarter final and upset Westmont (Calif.) 1-0. Their run would unfortunately come to an end in the semi-finals with a 1-0 loss to Rio Grande (Ohio).
This run is the deepest run into the tournament in program history. The team featured 2 All-Americans and 6 All-American Mideast Conference players.
