Women's soccer finishes strong

The MVNU women’s soccer team made their way to the national tournament in California on Friday, Nov. 22. The varsity head coach, Sarah Maracani, said that this was only the second time in MVNU sports history that the women’s soccer team had made it to the national tournament.

The team competed against Embry Riddle on that Friday but ended up losing with a final score of 4-1. “We took the lead 1-0 in the first half and went into halftime 1-1. We had to push numbers forward because of some injuries and defensively were not as strong as we were the entire season, but the girls never quit despite the score,” said Maracani.

Despite the loss in the national tournament, the women’s soccer team has had a tremendous season full of successes. For the second year in a row, they were able to host the Crossroads League tournament and won the game for the first time in program history.

Maracani said, “We are looking forward to building off the success we had this season. We are losing two incredible seniors but are also bringing a lot of experience back to the field next season as well.”

The MVNU community is proud of the women’s soccer team for their many accomplishments this season. “We are super blessed and thankful for all of the support that we received this season! Thank you to all that came out in the cold, traveled the distances, and streamed our games,” said Maracani. “You all are awesome.”
